Based in Cambridge, UK, with offices in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Norway and Scotland, 1Spatial employs around 100 full-time staff and has 41 years of experience in dealing with geospatial data. We enable customers to maximise their investment in geospatial data. Our expertise and products allow organisations from a number of industry sectors to integrate and share data through an open, standards-based and GIS neutral approach for complete interoperability.
The geospatial community has been aggregating data for a long period of time, i.e. pulling data together from many different sources. This process has been held back by the proprietary nature of GIS products and the lack of orchestration of events across the enterprise when the data changes. This data lifecycle approach is at the basis of the 1Spatial difference in the community.
The language of doing business - the business objects, definitions, classifications, and terminology that describe business information, as well as the context for recording transaction data - is known as Master Data. The key element in this language is the assignment of meaningless reference numbers (automatic ids). These unique references already exist in places like Great Britain, e.g. TOIDs and BLPUs. Providing links to these references and being able to automatically cross-reference the unique IDs is the basis for interoperability, improved communication and decision-making.
Optimum value, speed, certainty, safety, security, and low total cost for IT implementations can only be achieved via agreed objectives, standard processes, regular communications, messages, high quality data, identities, automatic identifiers, master data and dynamic data contributing to the whole solution. This is the geospatial data supply chain. It starts at data collection goes through data analysis, manipulation and publishing to data maintenance and requires ongoing feedback and change management.
1Spatial is focussed on all aspects of the supply chain from validating the data entry through to producing applications that support functional end user requirements.
We have:
- increased ROI in utilities (MidCoast Water, Australia)
- improved efficiencies in telecommunications (Vodafone Ireland)
- raised productivity in land and property services (PRA, Ireland)
- saved time and resources at national mapping agencies (OSi Ireland)
- ensured data quality and accuracy in the environment sector (EA, England)
The 1Spatial difference
1Spatial believes that the true value of spatial information systems lies within the data themselves, as those data form the knowledge base of the organisation. As a result, 1Spatial focus on the key activities defined in the diagram below, using rules to enforce: data management, quality, validation at data capture, integration, transformation and delivery, to ensure that the data can be used for many purposes.
1Spatial is characterised by its independence and openness, continually seeking new partnerships and affiliations in order to give our customers access to the best, and most relevant, geospatial knowledge and tools. We operate within the non-competitive 1Spatial Community, a group of like-minded organisations who want to offer standards-based, flexible, open and interoperable solutions to their customers. In addition, as part of the company's commitment to interoperability through open standards and the use of open source technology, we are actively involved in the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo).
