No. 1 Aeronautical Information Documents Unit (AIDU) of the Royal Air Force publishes aeronautical information in graphical, textual and digital format for use by the UK military and Allied forces. The Unit and 1Spatial have developed an advanced Aeronautical Production System (APS), designed and built to enable No. 1 AIDU to maintain a single aeronautical database, and produce high quality paper and digital products.

1Spatial and No. 1 AIDU have enjoyed a close working relationship for the past 15 years.  The APS project was a result of open and honest collaboration between the two organisations in order to produce part of the world’s most advanced aeronautical chart production systems. In 2005, the APS received the prestigious AGI Award for Innovation and Best Practice (Central Government).  Since it was commissioned, 1Spatial has successfully completed an extension to the APS, providing further quality benefits and efficiencies for No. 1 AIDU, Royal Air Force UK.

The Air Mapping and Charting user community was extended in 2006, following the purchase of the APS by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).  With over 2500 customers and the desire to increase the number of products it delivers, the RAAF sought an application suite that would allow its existing team in Melbourne to meet this objective. 1Spatial’s APS suite delivers this capability through a number of Air Charting technology breakthroughs based on 1Spatial’s object orientated Gothic database.
