Under a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract with the US Army
Engineer Research and Development Center's (ERDC) Topographic Engineering
Center (TEC), LSI and 1Spatial conducted activities to implement a 3D
topology model developed during an earlier research initiative. The 3D model
was implemented using OracleR Spatial supporting the data types for 3D
topological complexes as specifi ed in the ISO 19107 Abstract Test Suite.
The focus of the research was to provide a demonstrator of a 3D topology
storage model in a commercial RDBMS. Volumetric 3D topology allows
intelligent routing, which is essential for emergency response,
search-and-rescue, and tactical military operations.
The 3D topology model was successfully completed; the results of the effort
are substantial and represent a significant step forward in the exploitation
of geospatial data through the utilization of 3D topology.
