City of Amsterdam

The City of Amsterdam is bringing its maps up to date with an innovative modernisation programme. The City’s GeoInformation Department (Geo en VastgoedInformatie) is redesigning and redefining its 'Small Scale Base Map 1:10:000 (Kleinschalige BasisKaart Amsterdam, KBKA)'. The aim of the programme is to ensure that the data is accurate, clean and aligned with national standards; in turn this will ensure the delivery of high quality data to end customers, both online and offline. City of Amsterdam has chosen 1Spatial’s Radius Topology product to achieve this goal.

In addition to its initial use in detecting and correcting historical errors, Radius Topology is also being used to:

  • Clean and create a topological structure to existing base data, as well as dynamically maintain data integrity of new feature updates
  • Enable more efficient shared geometry updating by editing the primitives
  • Enable topology spatial queries to dynamically display holes or other QA problems within the data
  • Enable faster spatial querying of the database through topological searches
  • Directly edit topology primitives to help in the editing and splitting of area features
  • Auto maintain the quality of the base data as new updates are made

The investment and functionality of the Radius Topology solution implemented in Oracle9i is protected for any future upgrades to Oracle Database 10g by ensuring compatibility and provision of migration tools to the Oracle Database 10g topology storage models available.
