| Ordnance Survey Ireland
Ordnance Survey Ireland (OSi) is the national mapping agency of Ireland, one of the most technologically advanced organisations of its kind in the world. Its mission is: excellence in providing quality mapping and geographic information services to meet society's needs. OSi is mandated by the Government of Ireland to achieve this. The primary product of OSi is mapping services; it produces urban, rural and tourist and leisure mapping at a variety of scales, in digital and paper form. Additionally, the source data used to create the map series is also used to produce other products such as orthophotography and digital terrain models.
OSi manages its core geospatial data within a GINIS SDS (spatial database server), from 1Spatial, utilising the Oracle 10g spatial database system. 1Spatial’s Kongsberg office has been the prime contractor for the supply of integrated digital mapping and GIS to OSi since 1979. In order to manage its data effectively OSi, in conjunction with 1Spatial Kongsberg, has implemented an end-to-end solution. This system allows centralised and version-controlled map storage for such diverse use as: photogrammetry, office editing, field editing, plotting, small-scale mapping, address database, e-commerce, and final editing of printed maps.
1Spatial provided OSi with an open, flexible, modern system that had the capacity to cope with huge quantities of data, including:
- A single integrated system for editing, tracking and control
- Full history storage
- Locking work area
- Mobile editing
- Integration with third party products
- Data storage and management
- Data extraction, transfer, survey and data capture
- Data editing
- Quality control
- Data loading
