Many public sector organisations and departments are failing to gain real value from their substantial investment in spatial data.  As the public sector strives to make efficiency gains, meet Key Performance Indicators, migrate to Ordnance Survey MasterMap®, and respond to such pressures as Gershon, ODPM Priority Outcomes, and the Traffic Management Act, reuse of this investment is critical.

• East Sussex County Council (ESCC) had concerns about rolling a new Highways Management System from Exor Corporation out across the organisation.
• The spatial data being used to populate the new system was poor and the various sources could not be reconciled, undermining confidence in the data and preventing automated analysis of shared data to take place.
• ESCC invited 1Spatial to run a pilot project on the data to identify the specific problems and create a flowline to correct the data.  Immediate analysis showed that 90% of the problems could be addressed using 1Spatial’s automated processes.

The pilot project proved the concept, and resulted in a short project to process the data.  The data sets were processed by 1Spatial off-site using our specialist technology in less than a month.  In addition, the project was carried out without disruption to ESCC’s staff resources and enabled a successful rollout of the new system on time and to the original budget.
