Dr Michael Sanderson, 1Spatial's Chief Executive Officer:
UK SDI: Lifecycle and Supply Chain Considerations
Mike’s presentation will cover the requirement to address the validity and usefulness of geospatial data within the context of the UK Location Programme (UKLP). This will explain concepts such as the geospatial data supply chain, i.e. the necessary interaction and players involved from data capture through to data publishing and the need for sharing geospatial data across government departments. Another key element of the UKLP is the INSPIRE Directive. It has been made clear for Legally Mandated Organisations and other data providers in the UK that it is their responsibility to ensure compliance of their datasets and services, with no independent checking being carried out. This presentation will explain the consequences of this approach and highlight the importance of data consistency for the UKLP, as well as ways to achieve it.

1Spatial is supporting Richard Smith from British Transport Police:
Addressing the problems of addressing
Richard will discuss the impact of inaccurate data on emergency services. There is a need for police forces to extend their own address database or gazetteer to accommodate ‘non-addressable’ information. This is be used for both incident response and the provision of accurate mapping in support of activities, such as intelligence generation and resource planning. British Transport Police (BTP) recently embarked on a programme that uses state-of-the-art technologies to automate the audit and repair of their incident database in relation to the NLPG and other address files. BTP has been able quantify the quality of the data held within their gazetteer, which is core to providing location information to any officer responding to an incident on the railway network. After auditing their data, the same technology can be used to provide ongoing data validation to ensure integrity and reliability. This presentation examines the progress and outcome of the BTP initiative and considers the benefits derived from reliable data.
There is a pre-conference event on the 22nd September that includes an Oracle Spatial Special Interest Group. As an Oracle Certified Partner 1Spatial will also be represented at this event. For more information regarding this event.
