AGI Environmental SIG

Bob Chell, Principal Consultant at 1Spatial will be presenting at the annual Association for Geographic Information (AGI) Environmental Special Interest Group (SIG) event. The theme of the event is 'Environmental GI: Which routes will it take next .' Bob's presentation will cover possible approaches for meeting reporting requirements relating to European environmental public sector information.
There are a number of initiatives at a European level like SEIS and INSPIRE that play an important role in how environmental GI data are collected, managed and presented to meet EC requirements. As environmental GI changes in line with these initiatives, connecting and sharing this public sector information across government agencies can also be facilitated. A key to enabling improved data sharing and associated quality is data lifecycle management.
This presentation describes the ways in which reporting can be helped by connecting and sharing environmental GI. It draws heavily on experiences from the eContentplus EC-funded ESDIN project (led by EuroGeographics) and describes the experiences of transforming local UK data sets into INSPIRE schemas; this includes testing completed by 1Spatial with the Environment Agency (EA) of England and Wales.
