In many organisations CAD engineers do not have access to the corporate mapping database; they generally work on extracts or copies of the master set, which can quickly become out of date leading to ineffective and inconsistent decision-making.

1Spatial’s Oracle Data Link (ODL) utility allows CAD users a consistent view of the corporate base mapping data within their own AutoCAD Map toolset without the need for re-training or for Spatial database administrators (DBA) to alter the OS MasterMap repository. Oracle Data Link comprises a set of tools which adds extra functionality to AutoCAD Map:

• Schema Set Up Tool – automatically creates a unique CAD-compatible schema
• Gazetteer Tool – this search and zoom tool provides the user with a Gazetteer consistent with corporate standards and integral to CAD.
• Simplified Access Tool – this scalable extension provides an efficient ‘one-click-map’ within AutoCAD Map that can query and retrieve data from the corporate map database.

1Spatial’s CAD tools for Corporate mapping integration are available on Autodesk Map 3D 2006 and 2007, and AutoCAD Map 3D 2008, as well as operating against Oracle 9i and 10g Databases.

Dorset County Council’s Corporate Property section has benefited from 1Spatial extensions and consultancy. Those departments which operate an AutoCAD Map 3D environment are now able to access the data they need within a few mouse clicks. Staff can access relevant information quickly and make better business decisions on up-to-date corporate datasets.
