The Radius Check suite encompasses three versions of a user-friendly, Windows-based application that allows easy identification and administration of 2D, 2.5D, 3D and 4D spatial data that are held in Oracle databases. Using “multi-thread” processing, analysis on all sizes of dataset can be executed quickly and efficiently and results viewed through a colour-coded and easy to view interface.
Who is it for?
Any organisation with spatial data held in an Oracle database in sectors such as Local Government, Central Government, Utilities and Data Supply. Possible users include Gazetteer Custodians, Hydrographic Surveyors, GIS Consultants, Software Developers and Oracle Database Administrators. Requires a connection to an Oracle 9i, 10g or 11g database.
The Radius Check suite is designed to enable any user of spatial data to manage their database effectively, without the need for a significant level of technical expertise. There are three main groups of users working with Oracle Spatial databases that will benefit from using Radius Check products:
GIS Officers and System Programme Managers
Oracle DBAs
Helpdesk Personnel
Radius Check Lite
Radius Check Lite features the foundation-level functionality that can be found across the entire suite, and can be downloaded from the 1Spatial website. It enables the user to easily establish if there are any spatial data present in their database. Any existing spatial data are immediately located and a health check is carried out using the same validation rules as are used in Oracle databases. This check includes the health of the spatial data indexes and any metadata present. This level of functionality is ideal for a student checking their thesis, or a data officer reporting on the state of the data before taking further remedial action.
The free download of Radius Check Lite is available here.
Radius Check
Radius Check gives users have the ability to add and create metadata and spatial indexes, once any problems have been identified. This gives them the flexibility of spatial data structure management without the typical associated expense. Data health and schema problems can be easily identified and rectified, even in large, complex, corporate datasets, without adversely affecting processor performance.
Radius Check Plus
Radius Check Plus incorporates all the functionality of the other versions and delivers additional features. It enables users to visualise the geometries of their data, even those with complex geographic boundaries. The geometries are displayed alongside additional validation information, allowing easy detection of faults such as self-intersecting polygons. Once they have been identified, Radius Check Plus enables certain problems, such as double digitisation, to be fixed. Alternatively, export and printing facilities allow more complex problems to be sorted, ordered and sent to the relevant party for remedial work, which can provide the basis for a data quality-based production workflow. A back-up function provides the user with the safeguard to go back again and again until problems are resolved satisfactorily.
All versions of Radius Check are accessed by downloading Radius Check Lite from the 1Spatial website. The functionality of Radius Check and Radius Check Plus is enabled by entering an access code, which can be purchased online or by contacting 1Spatial. The application is launched quickly and easily from the user’s desktop and its small size allows easy access via the Internet. Full documentation is provided to all users as standard.
Spatial Data Locator
Automatically finds all 2D, 2.5D, 3D and 4D spatial data that an oracle schema owns or, if selected, all 2D, 2.5D, 3D and 4D spatial data that a schema has been granted access to. Using multi-thread processing, analysis on even large datasets can be executed quickly and efficiently.
Reporting
Displays the relevant information using colour coding to highlight potential issues in the data in relation to spatial index status and metadata.
Adjustable Interface
Users can adjust elements of the interface, such as colours and font sizes, to suit their accessibility requirements and preferences.
Easy Access
The software is free to download with the simple provision of a valid email address. Once installed it is easy to access via the desktop of the user's Windows PC.
User Documentation
Full documentation is provided with all Radius Check products, guiding the user through the interface and providing information regarding the functionality of future, follow-up releases.
Radius Check includes all of the above features plus:
Creation & Deletion Of Metadata
Users can create or delete metadata as required.
Spatial Reference Identification (SRID) Amendment
The software allows the SRID to be changed and an up-to-date list of known co-ordinate systems is included to provide options.
Creation & Deletion of Spatial Index
Users can create and delete the spatial index for a schema as required.
Name Spatial Index
Users can name or customise any of the spatial indexes to give them more flexibility and improve data management.
Dashboards
Users can view a summary of the health of their data in easy-to-view pie charts
Primary Key
Users can create a primary key for a table.
Radius Check Plus includes all of the above features plus:
Adjustable Interface Easy-to-read buttons on the taskbar can be used to mask and unmask certain elements of the interface, creating an on screen environment tailored to the users specific requirements or level of expertise.
View Geometries An approximation of a geometry is included and has additional features for validation such as co-ordinate information, vertices and directional arrows, all of which can be switched on and off as per user preference. A simple data (SDO) form of a single geometry can also be produced, containing explanatory comments.
Analyse Geometries Through a data view panel, users can view approximations of their geometries and easily spot faults such as self-intersecting polygons. A copy can then be printed off for correction purposes.
Error Reporting The application will report on fundamental geometry errors allowing a user to export a list of errors for correction (as a csv file via the user’s editor).
Double Digitising Resolution Problems relating to co-existing points can be resolved within the interface.
Benefits
The Radius Check application is less than 1Mb in size, making it quick and easy to install with minimum disruption to users. It allows simple administration, validation and management of 2D, 2.5D, 3D and 4D spatial data held in Oracle databases. The simplicity of the product means that all spatial data users, even those without a significant level of technical expertise, can use it. It can also be used as a learning tool for those new to Oracle schemas, supporting day-to-day database operations without the need for expensive training or support packages. The multiple versions provide the user with the flexibility to choose the most appropriate level of functionality for their purposes. The simplicity also means that tasks can be carried out more effectively and efficiently, saving the company, and the user, time and money.
