The North East Regional Visualisation Environment (NERVE) Project is a multi-organisation research project that is exploring the difficulties associated with building and maintaining a shared geospatial environment in a collaborative manner.
Aim: A central objective is design and construction of a demonstrator that will integrate technologies throughout the entire geospatial data supply chain; this will include data storage and discovery, common model maintenance, and real-time visualisation using multiple client implementations (thin/thick 2D/3D).
Approach: Current research is focused in two areas. The first stream is comparing Sensor Web Enablement framework with its more generic counter part WS-Notification. The second stream is looking at how existing semantic web tools may be used to support spatial schema translation.
Partners: iMass, 1Spatial, Ordnance Survey and Newcastle University
Results: We are currently implementing various components of the demonstrator, in preparation for an integration phase early in 2007. Once completed the team will then focus on delivering two real world scenarios; one for street works and the other for emergency services.
