Many organisations manage polygon data to underpin the IT systems that support key business functions and processes, such as property and environmental management, planning or highways maintenance. Often these are captured and aligned against Ordnance Survey's (OS) MasterMap® Topography Layer. The real world, however, is constantly changing and the OS MasterMap dataset is constantly being improved. The OS MasterMap Topography Layer works on the principle that you will take an initial supply of all data in your area of interest and then update the data by taking change-only update (CoU), which contains only the information that has changed.
The more frequently you apply CoU, the more up to date your data will be but every CoU batch will need to be analysed to determine the impact of the changes to your assets:
- Which assets are affected by the changes to the OS MasterMap?
- Which assets no longer line up with the underlying OS MasterMap and need changing?
- Which ones still line up with the underlying OS MasterMap and therefore may not need changing?
Intelligent, automated rules-driven process
Our OS MasterMap CoU Impact Report Service analyses your latest asset data layers against both the original and the latest OS MasterMap data. It then produces reports in the form of layers showing you which of your asset features have been affected by the update to the OS MasterMap and a classification level describing how likely is it that the update will require a change to the asset.
1Spatial has robust, standards-based products and services to achieve this. Intelligent business rules are used to analyse your assets and determine the impact from a change in the OS MasterMap data (a business rule is a piece of knowledge that controls how this analysis is done). This information can be used in an impact report either before or after you have applied the CoU changes to your OS MasterMap data. You can then use the report to:
- Predict how much effort you will need to reconcile your assets with the changes to OS MasterMap
- Drive you to all the assets that need to be checked because they no longer line up with the OS MasterMap
Fully Managed Bureau Service
1Spatial offers this process as a fully managed Bureau Service with a typical turnaround time of five working days. We generate the reports from the latest version of OS MasterMap.
Business Advantages
- Time and cost savings - by automating the analysis and classifying those assets that have changed their alignment to the underlying OS MasterMap, you can make significant time and cost savings when compared to the manually checking the data
- Five day turnaround - Take advantage of our Bureau Service and have your report generated as often as you required within five days without having to worry about buying, installing and operating new software
- Improved decision-making - Ensuring that your asset data is up to date will produce more accurate and reliable results allowing you to make more effective decisions
- Improved service - By realising a number of operational benefits, you can offer a more efficient and effective service and are better placed to meet the growing demands and expectations of your customers
How does it work?
You provide us with:
- One or more of your polygon asset layers (e.g. BLPU extents, highways datasets, Sites of Special Scientific Interest) as MapInfo TAB, ESRI Shapefile or Oracle Spatial export files
- Either a copy of your OS MasterMap Topographic Area data before the CoU updates are applied (if you want the report immediately) or we can take a copy of our latest OS MasterMap data as the baseline, in anticipation of a report to be generated in future
- Optionally, a polygon representing the extents of your authority, in one of the formats above, to help identify the OS MasterMap data required
- Permission to use your asset data for this process and permission to use your OS MasterMap data license (we can use our own up-to-date copy of the latest OS MasterMap Topographic Area data, we just need permission to use your license)
For each asset layer we provide you with a layer in the same format containing just those assets affected by CoU, with a classification attribute which is set to one of:
- High likelihood that it needs checking - The asset was completely aligned with OS MasterMap but is no longer
- Medium likelihood that it needs checking - The asset was not completely aligned with OS MasterMap and is still not completely aligned with OS MasterMap but the amount of alignment has changed
- Medium low likelihood that it needs checking - The asset was not completely aligned with OS MasterMap and is still not completely aligned with OS MasterMap and the amount of alignment is the same
- Low likelihood that it needs checking - The asset was completely aligned with OS MasterMap and is still completely aligned with OS MasterMap
Pricing
We offer two frequency levels of reports:
Six-monthly reports
Yearly reports
Initial Set-up fee is £2,000
Cost per report thereafter is £1,000
Discount Plan
We offer a discount plan which sees the set-up fee waived when a three year contract is taken out for either the six-monthly or yearly reports. For example:
Six-monthly reports:
- Without a three year contract: £2,000 set up charge plus £1,000 for each of six reports, Total = £8,000
- With a three year contract: £1,000 for each of 6 reports, Total = £6,000
Yearly reports:
- Without a three year contract: £2,000 set up charge plus £1,000 for each of three reports, Total = £5,000
- With a three year contract: £1,000 for each of three reports, Total = £3,000
The above pricing is based upon one dataset. For multiple datasets there will be an additional charge of £500 per dataset, per report.
