    Online Validation Service

Online Validation Service The Online Validation Service provides an easy to use, cloud based, independent data validation solution enabling you to have confidence in your data.

Overview

The Online Validation Service provides an easy to use, cloud based, independent data validation solution enabling organisations to have real confidence in sharing and utilising their spatial data. It is delivered through 1Spatial's cloud platform Socium.

Following a simple four step process, users can upload data to the service, select from a catalogue of pre-defined quality conformance rules and within a matter of seconds receive an online quantitative analysis of any non-conformances against the rules selected. Users can then download the error report in SHP or TAB format directly into their local GIS application to visualise the exact location of each non-conformance.

  • Validate your data against pre-defined quality conformance rules
  • Receive a free quantitative analysis of your data quality
  • Download results in SHP or TAB format to visualise exact location of errors
  • Automate the process of creating data that is fit for purpose
  • Define and automate your data migration process
  • Integrate datasets to form a master dataset
  • Automate the quality assurance process of your supply chain
  • Manage your data quality
  • Automatically correct and realign your data against third party sources
  • Ensure network connectivity

Join the Socium Challenge to have your own rules created and added to the service ready for you to use.

In the words of our customers, “the service provides the mechanism of finding the needles in a haystack in a matter of seconds.”

Benefits

Socium is ahead of the curve by providing services through SaaS to furnish you with the most cost effective and user friendly way of satisfying your spatial data needs. The Online Validation Service provides multiple benefits to your organisation:

  • Quantifiable results - Identify the specific number and location of non-conforming features that need to be addressed in your data
  • Time saving - Uploading, validating data and receiving the results, takes only a matter of seconds. Done manually this can take you months!
  • Easy to use - With the highly user-friendly interface the learning curve is almost non-existent, reducing cost and enabling you to get value from the service immediately
  • No additional software purchases - Validation results can be viewed directly in your existing applications, meaning no additional software or training costs and you can commence your fix-up strategy immediately
  • Zero cost option - As a cloud based SaaS application, there are no large, upfront software or infrastructure costs and no cost of ownership. We take all the infrastructure headaches away from you. You simply login and use the service at your convenience, maximising your return on investment
  • Freemium service – We provide a range of rules for you to use free of charge. These rules enable you to validate your data and receive a quantitative analysis of your data quality against each of the rules you have selected. You will also be able to download a file in SHP or TAB that you can load directly into your own GIS application, which will show you exactly where each error in your data is located.
  • Flexible model - We offer you the choice of commercial models for using our premium rule sets. Either a straight pay-as-you-use model, so you only pay when you use the service, or a monthly subscription giving you unlimited access for 12 months. Simply choose the model that best meets your needs.

Technical

The Online Validation Service has been designed to ensure that everyone can easily use and benefit from the service irrespective of technical knowledge and without the need for any training. Below however, are a few technical points to consider when using the service:

Supported web browsers

  • Internet Explorer 8
  • Internet Explorer 9
  • Google Chrome

Supported data formats

  • Esri SHP
  • MapInfo TAB

Security

  • When accessing the Online Validation Service you will be doing so via a secure, trusted URL (HTTPS) fully installed with a digital certificate issued by GeoTrust.
  • The certificate signature value is 256 bytes long and the certificate signature algorithm is "SHA-1 with RSA Encryption".
  • Data is only held within the Online Validation Service for the duration of the validation processing.
  • Data is uploaded securely to the service using SSL HTTPS.
  • The cloud service is hosted in a Tier 3 data centre at Canary Wharf - other customers of this data centre include banks and financial services.
  • Once a validation session has completed and the results are displayed, uploaded data is completely removed from the service. This is done deliberately, as the Online Validation Service is not a storage facility for data so we neither have the need to hold your data or the facility in place to do so. You can therefore be confident that once your session has completed, that your data is no longer stored anywhere outside your own environment.

GIS applications that can be used to view validation results

Any GIS application that can view TAB or SHP file formats can be used to upload the validation report and view the location of all non-conforming features.

Underlying technology

The technology underpinning the Online Validation Service is 1Spatial’s powerful rules engine, Radius Studio.

Having been in this business for decades, I cannot see how data validation can be made any easier, while maintaining - indeed increasing - data integrity. I would highly rate the Online Validation Service and recommend other users of spatial data to get online and try the service out. If you have an issue or problem you are working with in a particular dataset, I would suggest getting in touch with them to see what rules they can create to help you overcome it.
