Data Integration Solutions
2/8
A huge variety of data types currently exist in different formats. These data are of varying quality, have different levels of detail and have all been collected for different purposes. As your organisation strives to achieve maximum return from your data investments, the integration of these different data types is becoming necessary and inevitable. Geospatial data in particular are being increasingly utilised by mainstream businesses as the demand for location-based information increases.
Integrating data into a single store makes the management of those data easier and more efficient. The decision-making process is improved, with all the information you need stored centrally and accessed through a single application. 1Spatial’s industry-leading integration solutions are based on an open, standards-based and GIS neutral approach, which ensures complete interoperability between your existing systems, meaning that no previous investment in either data or systems is lost.
1Spatial’s specific expertise lies in the integration of geospatial data with both other geospatial data and non-geospatial data, and the integration of geospatial data into existing business workflows. With the demands for integrated data on the increase and the subsequent evolution of geospatial technology, it is more important than ever to be at the forefront of developments. With this in mind, we are continually on the look out for emerging trends and current areas of interest include the convergence between:
CAD and GIS – the continued convergence of two previously disparate fields that contain data that are increasingly being integrated to provide users with a more complete picture in a more efficient and cost effective way
2D and 3D - the use of 3D geospatial data for more than just giving context to 2D data, i.e. using it to perform meaningful analysis, for example looking at the impact of flooding, disaster management and virtual shopping and tourism, for which data quality is a key consideration
Sensor Web – integrating data from diverse, location-aware sensors that are all connected in a network allowing them to report data about their surroundings in real time
Address Data Management
In certain sectors, such as Emergency Services many facilities that are important in emergency responses do not have addresses that conform to postal standards. There are no standards or dictionary terms to support gazetteer extensions. This means that such address-based databases are error prone and their maintenance is time consuming. Even worse the data cannot be exchanged successfully with other emergency services and the response may be directed to the wrong location. Using the data integration environment provided by 1Spatial organisations can tackle incomplete or inaccurate data. As an example, if you are working in a Police Force you may be struggling to publish accurate crime statistics that make use of location, we can help. If you are looking for data quality improvements in matching address data with mapping data then read on.

Basic Land and Property Units (BLPUs)
Municipalities worldwide seek to make their data available through portals and other interoperable services. Since they are managing data that change rapidly, a framework for linking that data to the real world (where the change actually takes place) is required. This framework in Great Britain is based on creating an entity known as a Basic Land and Property Unit (BLPU). This is created from detailed topographic objects from the Ordnance Survey data sets. This is a time consuming process and has to be repeated quarterly as the changes from the Ordnance Survey arrive. 1Spatial provides an automated process, which has the benefit of reducing the time to create and maintain BLPUs. 90% of BLPU polygons can be created automatically, resulting in significant time and cost savings for Local Government organisations.

Incident Responses
Many of our solutions support the need to aggregate or integrate geospatial data from many different sources and ensure or maintain the integrity of master data or base reference mapping. This is particularly true with incident responses since timing is essential to tackle incidents in a timely fashion. 1Spatial offers a data integration platform that can help you to automatically address some of these data management challenges and respond effectively.

INSPIRE Training
As a European Directive, INSPIRE (the Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe) raises a series of political, organisational and technological challenges. This training programme has been devised in a modular format to help address the different aspects of INSPIRE and outline how your organisation can actually benefit from working on INSPIRE. The training caters for different job roles in stakeholder organisations, such as Legally Mandated Organisations (LMOs) and Spatial Data Interest Communities (SDICs).

Local Plans Online
Geospatial data underpins the planning process in terms of being able to access, visualise and analyse information relating to planning activities. 1Spatial has worked in this area for many years with a number of customers delivering their planning information to the general public. Using geospatial data in this way, citizens can find out information relevant planning activities in their area, including development plans and activities that may impact them. 1Spatial has delivered solutions to help local government in this area.
